Questions About Little Sugar Addicts

What are the benefits for my child?

No more tantrums, mood swings, feeling inadequate, not being able to sit still or pay attention, whining, arguing, mouthing off. Hard to believe? But it is true.

Is it all or nothing? Does it help to cut back, just give them less sugar?

It is easy to think it should be all or nothing. That will not work. Be attentive, make choices. Start with soda, but only AFTER breakfast is in place.

How can I do this and not scare my children by telling them they can never have a lollipop, soda, birthday cake etc?

You won't say that to your kids because it is not what you are going to do. You start by talking about breakfast, not sugar. You take baby steps.

What do they drink if they can't have juice or soda?

Water, water, water.

What about artificial sweeteners?

Artificial sweeteners are not a good solution. They keep cravings alive because if you activate the 'taste' of sweet, you get a desire for more. In addition, some of them can be addictive.

What if they won't eat the 'right' foods? My son/daughter won't eat wheat bread or potato skin.

Start slowly and take baby steps. Work on breakfast with protein first.

Is there any research or studies or scientific evidence that this program will change what kind of adults my children will be? Why bother, what's our motivation to make them healthier little kids?

No, there is no research yet because science is just starting to wake up to the relationship between our children's diets and their behaviors. Why bother? You cannot imagine what a difference this will make in how their lives are.

Will this program help my child who has ADHD? Can they stop taking their medications?

The program has helped thousands of kids with ADD. They are clear, focused and no longer taking meds. But it takes time and work.

How do I deal with my husband (partner, parents, etc) who doesn't support the changes I am trying to make with the children?

You start with yourself. Put your own oxygen mask on first. As your own program gets stronger, you will be better able to work with your children. Over time, the other folks in your family will see the change and will buy in.

Do you have any tips for those school parties?

Shift the focus from food to fun.

What about birthdays?

We change the focus of birthdays from sweets to enjoyment. You will learn how to plan a great party with your child that doesn't revolve around cake and ice cream.

What can I do - my child refuses to eat breakfast?

Make breakfast with protein non-negotiable, just the way you do with seat belts. That she eats is not negotiable, but let her choose what kind of protein and other foods with it. Often making a shake in the morning will work really well.
